See Home Page for booking form. R/C race meetings for all levels of driver and buggy. 1/10th electric only, Buggy, Modern: 2WD, 4WD, Vintage, Rally, SCT (Short Course Trucks), Big Wheel and Tamiya fun. 2S Lipo, max 4.2 volts per cell in a Lipo charge bag. BRCA membership is needed to cover insurance. Best to use batteries and motors compatible with BRCA rules. This widens the market for re-sale and can be used at more race events. (Vintage and brushed motors etc. excepted). Vintage must be a minimum of 10.5 turns brushless. Vintage 2WD is basically pre-2000 rear motor as per iconic rules. 'ReRe' and Retro cars like the RB10 and BBX are fine. Specifically 3S battery packs and soft case batteries should not be used. 1/8th wheels are not to be used on SCT trucks . LiPo cells can be dangerous, do not leave them unprotected in cars or connected to anything unsupervised. Helps to be broadly in line with BRCA rules or iconic rules for your class. Results are not graded by age of car, just A,B,C finals for each class entered.
Crawler track is also open on race days. Tyres & setup: Tyres are always the most important setup. Mill End has 3 types of Astro turf which is fairly thick pile and varies in grip (especially when wet.) 'Yellow' Mini-Spikes, Mini-Pins and Dart Mini-Spikes give high grip in the dry. 'Silvers' work best when wet or damp, then try 'Yellows' from round 2 onwards as some corners start to dry out and a 'wet setup' will cause roll-overs. Definition of a 'grip roll' v a 'traction roll': 'Grip roll' means off-power roll-overs caused by the outside front 'digging in' under steering pressure. 'Traction roll' means on-power roll-over caused by the outside rear end collapsing under steering pressure. 'Silvers' do not grip as well as 'Yellows' as the track dries out. (In the dry it can be useful to put 'Silvers' on the front to reduce oversteer with 'Yellows' on the back. On the front remove spikes from the outsides & superglue if you get too much grip roll. High corner speed grip roll: try driving tighter corners at a slower speed - requires discipline and good braking. Adding understeer makes for an easier drive but may not be good for laptimes. Running too low will cause the 'unseen' bumps to catch you out - locate the worst bumps by watching others. More camber on the front if you want more steering, (-3 degrees is probably the max.) Less steering angle if you have too much oversteer. Use the slipper and less punch to dial out 'wheelies', except for 'Tamiya Fun' :0)
Keep watch on the home page, and Facebook and Popalong RC YouTube for announcements. See 'Home page' for booking forms for each class. Wet weather 'wash-out' - Mark will make the call at 12:00 on the Saturday before a race date via WhatsApp. More: setup info: Lower ride height and less droop will reduce 'grip-roll'. However, this will reduce cornering grip and will increase the risk of 'bottoming out' (= always a compromise.) (Basic rule: don't let the front-end ride height get higher than the rear.) Reducing camber on the front and reducing 'toe-in' or moving to 'toe-out' helps reduce grip roll (however, this reduces turn-in power). Not so easy to test 'damping' changes (without several sets of shocks) - it's always going to be a balance depending on jumps, bumps, and spring rates. Generally increasing damping on the rear should help reduce traction roll - needs testing - not all agree! I tried 400 CST, 600 CST and 900 CST and found no noticeable effect! Next consider making some stiffer Anti-Roll bars - easier said than done. Also thicker oils on the diff. Feel free to send in your own setup tips for Mill End. (Especially if you have 2wd advice.) From Popalong RC's latest video on 'Tyres' - many racers are choosing Ballistic Buggy Green mini spike and DMS soft inserts for wet and damp on grass and astro for both 2wd and 4wd. They have long spikes to cut into the deeper astro. e.g. #BBT03 - BALLISTIC BUGGY - MINI SPIKE - 4WD FRONT TYRES - 1 PAIR - GREEN
